Galiano Gold publishes its annual sustainability report
VANCOUVER, BC, October 21, 2021 / CNW / – Galiano Gold Inc. (“Galiano” or “the Company”) (TSX: GAU) (NYSE American: GAU) announces the release of its 2020 Sustainability Report (the “Report”), which marks its continued progress on environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) topics and describes his vision of sustainable development being brazen.
In 2020, Galiano expanded its sustainability efforts to include an assessment of internal governance processes and increased transparency on engagement with stakeholders on medium and long-term sustainability issues. The report has been prepared in accordance with the basic options of the Global Reporting Initiative (“GRI”) and highlights the Company’s sustainability achievements in 2020, including:
Environmental stewardship
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact, such as improving energy efficiency and diversifying the energy mix with renewable sources
- Beginning of the mine site and community plastic waste recycling program
- Double the active rehabilitation area
Support employees and communities
- A localization rate of 99.7% of the workforce – one of the highest reported percentages of local employee statistics to our knowledge in the industry
- Implement COVID-19 protective measures to support employees and local communities
- A reportable total injury frequency rate (TRIFR) of 1.16 per million person-hours worked with two lost-time injuries, resulting in a lost-time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) of 0.20
- Contributing $ 1.16 million improving local living and health conditions and providing our stakeholder communities with medical supplies to reduce the spread of COVID-19
Governance
- Update Galiano and Asanko Gold Mine corporate governance policies, procedures and documents to ensure better integration and accountability
- Undertake an independent study to assess the potential human rights impacts that we will use to support the internal management of our human rights risks and opportunities
- Complete refresher training for security personnel on the Voluntary Principles of Security and Human Rights
