Alba strengthens its global presence with the opening of its sales office in Singapore
Manama (ALBH): Aluminum Bahrain BSC (Alba), the world’s largest aluminum smelter outside China, took a major step to strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific market by inaugurating its new sales office in Singapore on Friday May 27, 2022.
The new sales office was officially inaugurated by Alba’s Chairman of the Board, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, in a ceremony attended by Alba’s Managing Director, Ali Al Baqali, as well as its Director Marketing Officer, Khalid A. Latif, and Director Marketing MEA – Asia, Hisham Al Kooheji as well as VAP Marketing Manager Shoji Takeuchi who is in charge of the operations of the Singapore office.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa said:
“Our expansion into Singapore marks a new chapter in Alba’s growth strategy as we aim to further connect with our existing customers in the Asian market and forge partnerships with new ones.
With the additional throughput of +550,000 metric tons from our Line 6 expansion project, Alba is now well positioned to consolidate its position as the supplier of choice and meet the demands of its growing customer base in the Asia- Peaceful.
In 2021, the Asia-Pacific market accounted for 21% of Alba’s total sales by footprint and Alba’s customer base has expanded to several countries in this region to include Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, India, Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand. among others. To date, Alba has 3 commercial offices in Zurich – Switzerland, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as a subsidiary in Atlanta – United States.

Alba 5 Power Plant Block 4 Extension Project
Alba Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 is a combined cycle power station which is an extension of the existing PS 5.
The PS5 Block 4 project is the addition of a fourth block of similar 1:1:1 configuration with Class J gas turbine technology and with a minimum rated ISO rating of 680.9 MW and includes connection to the existing 220 kV substation. The efficiency of this combined cycle power plant is much higher than that of the combined cycle power plants of PS3 and PS4. Upon completion of the PS5 Block 4 expansion project, the capacity of PS5 will increase from 1,800 MW to 2,481 MW.
The Mitsubishi Power & SEPCO III consortium will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of Block 4. Commercial operations of Block 4 PS5 are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Alba’s external grievance mechanism
Alba’s external grievance mechanism receives and facilitates the resolution of concerns and grievances from affected communities regarding Alba’s environmental and social (E&S) performance. External complaints about Alba’s E&S performance can be registered through the Alba Integrity line – a confidential and independent multilingual hotline – via a toll-free telephone system or via the 24-hour intranet.
Alba’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Alba’s COVID-19 Response Strategy was launched in January 2020 following the guidelines of the Bahrain National Task Force for Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response. The Company was able to maintain safe operations throughout 2021 thanks to its agile workforce – employees and contractor staff.
